Team USA Skateboarding and The Smithsonian Institute

Some of you may have noticed a couple of skateboarding icons in our social media feeds last week. Josh Friedberg, founder of 411 video magazine and photographer of note/former CEO of Tony Hawk Foundation, Miki Vuckovich were in town representing Team USA Skateboarding. We met with both of them as well as Jeff Brodie from the Smithsonian and Nancy Halvorson of Levitte at the Falls about a project called Innoskate. InnoSkate is a Smithsonian History Museum Project that creates a festival celebrating and educating folks on the relationship skateboarding and innovation have. Everything from art and music to engineering and entrepeneurship are on the table for potential experiences for the community. With potential panel discussions around complex topics as Mental Health, Discrimination, and the benefits of skateboarding. Innoskate has only been held a handful of times in the last ten years and only one other time in a smaller city and never in the midwest!

We are in the process of working with these folks and about thirty other community members to build out an experience for our community. We look forward to seeing exactly what comes of it, but it is an extremely exciting time to be involved in skateboarding in Sioux Falls!
